The Douglas Park Civic Association will host a special meeting to review the initial design concepts for the Neighborhood Conservation project along 12th St S from Glebe Rd to S Highland St. This project includes curb, gutters and a sidewalk. Please join us for a special civic association meeting Thursday evening 5 April 2018 at 7.15pm in the downstairs meeting room at Firehouse 9; 19th St S at Walter Reed Drive. County staff will present the draft plans and take questions and comments.

Arlington County has released its 2018 street paving plan. Streets in Douglas Park include segments of:

  • S Lincoln St
    S Lowell St
    S Nelson St
    S Norwood St
    S Oakland St
    S Stafford St
    S Thomas St
    S Wakefield St
    12th St S
    13th St S
    16th St S
    16th Rd S

Arlington County will begin this year’s paving season around mid-March and end in mid-October 2018, weather permitting.

A notice will be distributed to each residential or business address to notify them their streets has been selected for paving. Attached is the door hanger which will be distributed along with “No Parking Signs” 24 to 48 hours prior to the start of operation. There will be inconveniences such as traffic detours, no parking on the streets, noise, dust, etc.

This project at 1100 S Highland St was originally approved in 2009. It consists of 12 townhomes containing 32 market-rate apartments and 4 affordable units. A representative from the project has been requested to be on hand at the 20 November civic association meeting.

The next Civic Association meeting will be held Monday 27 June at 7.30pm in the downstairs meeting room of Firehouse No. 9 at 19th Street South and South Walter Reed Drive. On the agenda:

  • 7.30 pm. Welcome and Introductions.
  • 7.40 pm. The County Maintenance Lot, 19th St S at S Pollard St. Arlington Department of Environmental Services (DES) staff including Mike Moon and Kevin Connolly will be on hand to discuss ongoing issues with this lot, including onstreet parking by contractors, dirt, dust, noise, early operations hours, damage to adjacent properties, lack of buffering to residential areas, etc. As this is a long-standing issue, residents adjacent to the lot are encouraged to attend.
  • 9.00 pm. Update on the Arlington Transit Development Plan.
  • 9.15 pm. Open floor. Opportunity for residents to bring concerns to the attention of the DPCA Executive Committee.
  • 9.30 pm. Adjourn.

The next Douglas Park Civic Association meeting will be held Tuesday 16 June at 7.00pm at the Arlington Baptist Church, 714 S Monroe Street.  This is a joint meeting with the Alcova Heights Civic Association. A potluck will precede the meeting at 6.30pm; those who wish to participate should bring dishes as follows: families with last names beginning with A-K bring a main dish, L-R bring a side, and S-Z bring a dessert.

The meeting will be devoted to Arlington Presbyterian Church’s plans to redevelop their property along Columbia Pike.  Initial plans for the site are available at

Washington Gas has announced the next phase of its line replacement schedule. Work will be occurring in the following in parts of the following neighborhood blocks this spring and summer:

  • 1700 block of S Lincoln St
  • 1900 block of S Monroe St
  • 1600, 1700 and 1800 blocks of S Nelson St
  • 1700 and 1800 blocks of S Oakland St
  • 2000 block of S Pollard St
  • 3500 block of 17th St S
  • 3500 block of 19th St S

Arlington County DES released its 2015 paving plan this week. Paving operations begin in early April and continue through October. Streets scheduled for repaving in Douglas Park this year include:

  • S Quincy St from Columbia Pike to 19th St S
  • S Randolph St north of 16th St S
  • S Pollard St from 18th St S to 19th St S
  • 18th St S from S Quincy St to S Pollard St
  • S Four Mile Run Dr from Columbia Pike to S George Mason Dr

A notice letter will be mailed to all residential or business addresses approximately one (1) month before the beginning of the Paving Season 2015 to notify them their street has been selected for paving and that they should expect to see work done sometime between the months of April to October 2015. Door hangers will be distributed 24 to 48 hours prior to the start of the operation, as well as No Parking signs. The signs will be posted in the streets showing specific dates in which work is going to be performed.

S Queen St at Columbia Pike will be closed for approximately six months from the week of 15 December 2014 as part of the Washington Blvd Bridge replacement project.  At the same time, the ramp to I-395 N and Washington Boulevard southbound (accessible via the signal at S Quinn Street) will also be closed and traffic rerouted.
